what are the most intimidating circumstances under which you've approached a girl?

I wish I had some suggestions for you - I was and am horrible around people I do not know. It was a minor miracle I met my wife. I'll give you this though; I think you may get a lot of good ideas if you just ask your female friends. Get as many opinions as possible, separate out the chaff and go for it. No use going for ever with this and then always have the nagging "what if" feeling...

P.s. I agree with CTGuy; take any - reasonable - excuse to start a conversation.

I once started talking to a girl in a very similar situation because I asked to borrow a highlighter from her in the library. I ended up not really liking her, but you understand the point I am making.

Sit down next to her at the computer lab, if she's in the same class as you- ask for the assignment. Whatever-- just make contact and be charming once you make that contact.

Just don't go up to her and say "You've got a nice rack." or something like that.

Exactly. Nor melons (even if she *HAS* bought some)

Approach the group and talk to all of them, ignoring her. She'll start to wonder what's up, so then you can be like "I feel like I've been ignoring your friend. Can I talk to her for a little bit?" Since all the friends love you they'll say yes. BAM closed.

Good stuff. Just make sure that if it feels right to aske her out soon. Once I was working on a group project in college and I was really into this girl in the group. However, I didn't ask her out for fear that if she said no or it didn't go too well it would affect how we interacted in the group and the project would suffer. I was going to wait until after the project was done to ask her out, but by that point we were just friends, and there was no going any further and it was too late. So, if it feels right, the sooner the better.

Well guys, the weather got ****** and I have yet to see her again so I think I'm SOL because classes are now over. So next time you see a girl that's checking you out, repeat to yourselves "I must not be a ***** like GQGeek was!" and take some initiative because you might never see her again~

OT: GQgeek, how is the limited exposure to internet/TV experiment working so far?

If/when you see her again, you have a natural opening line: "hey, weren't you in History 111 last semester?"

It's perfect, she can't say "no"; she won't think you're creepy; and she'll know that you noticed her and kept her in your mind. If she's not interested at all, that will be apparent and no harm done, because you're just making small talk. If she's interested, it'll be apparent.

There's no harm in moving slowly, as shown by the fable of the Old Bull and the Young Bull.

Not even missing it. I can get my fill at the office and then when I leave I've become a lot more disciplined in my studies because i don't have the distractions.

Once in a while I've hung-around at the office after hours because I was looking at stuff online, but that's a relatively rare occurence and on the whole I'm using my time a lot more efficiently. And every night i do some history reading before bed which is something I wanted to do but never really did when i had the net at home.

Heh, I'd never heard that one before. Speaking of old bulls, when i was picking up my dry cleaning yesterday I saw this very well dressed old man introduce himself and sit down with a table of hot young girls, none of whom he knew. I couldn't believe how bold the guy was but they loved him! He was obviously flirting with them a bit but surprisingly it wasn't the least bit creepy.

That's awesome, I've seen that once or twice before. I always want to go up to the guy and be like, "Teach me your ways you leatherly lothario, you."
