I'm sorry for my other post with Manton; hopefully, this one will make fewer heads spin

A friend said he wanted to purchase an old Mercedes Benz car with an engine called W111. What is the quality like?

I asked this question on some Mercedes Benz forums and the guys over there went nuts, telling me this was the best that Mercedes Benz could ever get and all these other big exclamations.

Maybe you members can offer some advice?

Some maintain that the Mercedes W111 engines and their corresponding cars, the so-called Pontons, and Heckflosse(fintails) were the best production car Benz ever made and probably ever will. This series were the last to be hand-built and hand-assembled.

I think they are a straight-six with an overhead camshaft. There was also a smaller W110 with a V4.
