Hello. I'm needing some advice on what color sport coat to buy. I have a police officer's ball coming up on April 10th. I have decided to wear my silver belly cowboy hat. I think I've also decided on wearing blue slacks. What color sport coat should I wear with the blue slacks and silver belly cowboy hat? You can wear navy trousers with sport coats in olive, grey, tan, and cream.

However, a lot depends on the material of your coat and trousers. Grey sport coats are the easiest to wear when they're in a tweed, such as a grey Donegal or Harris. But a grey tweed may look odd with navy trousers, as navy is not a very rustic color.

Here's an example of a good pairing:

Two linen fabrics -- cream linen sport coat with navy linen pants. You can do the same with a pair of navy chinos. The colors and materials exude summer. Consider the material of your sport coat and trousers, along with the color.
