Thought I'd clue you guys in on what I saw during my first real trip around the stores this season.
Started at Den and saw the Richard Chai pieces. I thought they were interesting, but honestly, a bit plain for their price. I'd classify it as maintaining the classic male lines of Dries van Noten with a little twist. Shirts were ~225? There was a really brilliant military canvassy cotton olive green thicker shirt, not quite a shirt-jack but nice. Some schoolboy blazers and slacks, few knits. Not bad, but I didn't think it warranted the price. Staff was really nice, very knowledgeable.
Odin had some interesting pieces but overall underwhelming buys. Rag & Bone gingham shirts with a 3/4 placket (but open at the bottom) stood out, but I think gingham shirts are meant for sweaty days in Central Park and I stick with Save's brilliant shirts. Saw the infamous Rag & Bone fedora, very nice. R&B actually had some very nice bags. Nice Collective up front and I didn't care for it, except a really cool reversible nylonish light puffy jacket. Sort of like a cool version of a Patagonia light puffy. Robert Geller was nice, first time I'd really seen it. Band of Outsiders was really boring, but the buy had a lot of shirts I didn't like. Shipley and Halmos was surprisingly good, YMC awesome as always, great price but I won't buy their knits again since the first one I had stretched. Another piece on sale that I'm putting on hold until tomorrow -- can't snitch on that
I love living in New York. You can read about anything and go try it on the next day.
