I also heartily endorse Richard Posner. U.S. Supreme Court Justice William Brennan, for whom Posner clerked, famously described him as one of two geniuses he has ever met. (The other individual was Brennan's colleague, Justice William Douglas.)

I would add two law professors from opposing sides of the political spectrum, Cass Sunstein and Richard Epstein. Just don't let them get too close to each other -- they dislike each other for personal reasons.

Never met Sunstein, but Epstein is impressive. Very "regular guy" in person.
