Much like academia, writing is a somewhat autonomous field that allows for creative expression that isn't always found in other careers. It seems numerous authors past and present have channeled this creativity into fine clothing and snappy dressing. Whom do you consider the best dressed writer (alive or dead)? For me, it's Gay Talese.

He looks good.

He is wearing a fairly unconventional collar/lapel. Robert Deniro's character has several suits with a similar design, in addition to traditional notch and peak lapel.

I always think that there is nothing wrong with being flamboyant or creative it adds to someone' unique style and personality.

I don't know about best-dressed, but Gore Vidal is always presentable. Paul Bowles used to be quite natty too. And Hanif Kureishi modeled for Paul Smith.
