I am just getting to the age where I seem to be attending weddings more often. This weekend is a friends wedding that I haven't seen in a while, all of my old high school friends will be there and I have to look absolutely perfect.I know this isn't "my" big day or anything but I have to look great. What suit stlye, color, shirt, shoes would be great for a formal reunion? I can buy just about anything I dont already have. Thanks guys.

My wedding uni is a charcoal grey 4-season wool suit, 3-button/flat front job. Weddings are different than funerals, where I feel brown shoes are acceptable, at least in the warmer months. My advice is to stay conservative in shirt (white, light blue, etc), with maybe a little panache with the tie. I try to find out what the wedding colors are so I can find something with a little of that (not too much to look patronizing) in there to show consideration. No square toes or rugged soles. I don't care if the groomsmen's rentals are styled thus. Shoes are especially important if you're shopping

since your targets will be rich at a wedding, and will pay attention to your shoes - probably first. Buy a nice, conservative watch. Don't stand out overall. It's not your show

The problem with that is if you're dressed in anything of even moderate quality, you will stand out. I was in a 3-button charcoal pinstripe, a textured white french cuff shirt, and silver tie - generally seeming to me to not be overly ostentatious - and while I was hanging out with the groomsmen pre-event, a woman walked in, surveyed me and all of the other guys, then drafted me to be an usher. All because my (what I would assume to be) moderate (based upon the standards here) looked better than everyone else in the room, including the groom.

ohai peezie, I just heard I'll be in a horrendous car accident in 10 years. Basically, an earthquake will hit California while I'm on the Bay Bridge, specifically in the tunnel on Yerba Buena. A chuck of concrete the size of a Buick will come crashing on me and flatten my face to a bloody sinuous pancake. My question is: what should I wear to the funeral? My family is Italian, so open-casket is mandatory. I'm sure they can put something over my crushed face, perhaps a Bill Clinton or goalie mask - depends on if my last thoughts were sexy or murderous...anyway, more to the point: should my suit be black? I know people wear black for funerals, but what if it's your funeral? I don't think that question has really been addressed here on the forum. Anyhoo, please hurry. I know your response rate is +/- 9 years, but I'd really like to have this sorted out before the big one hits. Thanks. PS - will square toed shoes be back in style by then?
