Wedding Tuxedo

My wedding is coming up and I bought a JCrew ludlow tuxedo off ebay for $150 for the jacket and $100 for the pants (still had tags on them, kind of a win for me). Our wedding colors are different shades of blue so I have a blue tuxedo shirt that I'm wearing with the tux with a black tie. My question is for the accessories, I'm probably going to get cuff links and button studs, but wasn't sure if I should wear black suspenders or not. Also, I was wanting to wear a pocket square but it would be hard to find one to match the shirt and didn't know if white would be ok or not since I'm not wearing a white tuxedo shirt. Yes, wear suspenders. Black is fine. Wear some kind of waist covering too.

Wear a white shirt, not blue. Wear a white pocket square also. If you anger the gods by wearing a blue shirt, at least don't wear a matching blue pocket square.

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding. Suspenders are a good idea unless your trousers fit perfectly as they will guarantee that your trousers look their best throughout the evening. Black suspenders are fine (though your jacket should stay on and people should not really see your suspenders anyway).

A blue shirt should never be worn with a tuxedo; one's wedding colors do not change the basics of what one is supposed to wear with black tie. With the blue shirt, you are not in proper formalwear; you are wearing a costume. If you truly feel you must wear something blue, wear a suit, white shirt and perhaps a blue tie. A blue shirt with a tuxedo looked terrible at prom and will look worse now.

A white linen pocket square works regardless of shirt / tie color. Definitely do not wear a pocket square designed to match a non-white shirt.

Our wedding really isn't formal at all. I wanted to wear a tux because it's classic and I know I won't have that many moments in my life to wear a tux, but my fiance didn't want me looking extremely formal so we compromised on the blue tuxedo shirt we found on J.Crew. So ya, that's the story behind that.

That does not sound like a great compromise. Ultimately, you can wear whatever you want, but if you want something "classic," a tuxedo with a blue shirt is not it. The whole idea behind black tie is to emphasize the contrast between the tuxedo and bow tie on the one hand and the white shirt on the other. Without this contrast, I wouldn't bother. Frankly a suit with a white shirt and light blue tie would be a much more "classic" look and is less likely to result in you shaking your head at your wedding photos in 10 years. If your wedding isn't in any way formal, I am not sure how a tuxedo even entered into the discussion.

I hope at least your wedding is in the evening? Anyway, I agree with archibald: tux means white shirt. Either decide you want to wear a tux and do it right or wear something else.

I agree with what Cary, er, archibaldleach had to say. If you want to wear a tuxedo, wear a white shirt with black bowtie. If you wish to wear something blue, have a blue flower in the buttonhole of your tux. And, please, oh please, have a proper flower with the stem going through the buttonhole, not one of those gawdawful pinned-on corsages that florists are fond of making up for the men in a wedding party.
