I'm on a kind of tight budget looking for a suit to wear to my wedding. I am thinking about going with a Navy single breasted, or possibly charcoal. What labels are my best bets for this price range, $600-$800? I'd prefer ready-to-wear, because I've never done MTM and have heard the first suit can have some kinks. Thanks in advance

When is the wedding? That is to say how much time do you have to purchase and tailor a suit?

There is a current thread on the best suits in the $500-$800 range. It would be a good starting point for you. Congrats on your engagement.

I see from other threads people always recommend Brooks Brothers on sale. Well, they're on sale now, 2 for $1600. That's not really helping me with my $500-800 budget. It seems J. Crew offers a fashionably style suit for about $600 - maybe I'll try there. Though their suits do kind of strike me as too trendy for the formality of a wedding (though wearing a suit to a wedding isn't formal in itself :satisfied:

Keep in mind that the 2 for $1600 is not a sale. That's one of their standard "2 for-" deals that are always available. Be patient - their friends and family sale (15-20% off) will kick in around July - plenty of time to make necessary alterations before the wedding. They also tend to have a few weeks out of the year where they offer a sale per day on a particular item. If you sign up to recieve emails, you may grab your suit for 30% off at this point.

Either way, there's no need to be in a rush for a suit for a December wedding. Sit back and be patient.

Come on, you've got to do some of this yourself. We can't spoonfeed you everything. Two for $1,600 is not the sale price; that's the everyday "Brooks Buy" price. There are several mentions in the various wedding threads and the $500 - $800 range suit thread of how to get a Brooks Brothers suit for $500 - $600.

I'll help you out. Here are your BB options: (i) buy 1 suit during the upcoming 30% off sale, which will knock a $1,000 suit down to $700; (ii) buy two suits during the corporate incentive sale or other sale where you can get 25% off the Brooks Buy, which means you will get two suits for $1,200 ($600 each); (iii) pick one up during the after Father's Day clearance sale for $600; or (iv) wait until December 26th and get one for between $500 and $600.

I'd sit back. There is plenty of time, but a good suit in that price range is J Press. It's not going to be anything fancy, but you'll get a very servicieable suit and a lot of history.

If you want to go MTM, go to Mr. Ned in NYC, and he will be able to help you out.

As for the noob FAQ, it's coming.

Cheers,

Fok.

Samuelsohn MTM at a trunk show ($250 off) is almost impossible to beat, especially if you don't know your measurements, etc, and don't want any risk. Solid navy 2B, you will look awesome.

Otherwise B&S or Ebay will get you the best deals if you have the time and interest to look.

FAQs are very welcome so people wouldn't keep asking the same questions over and over.
