Hi everyone, I've been searching and reading on here for a long time, but decided to come open account to ask and become involved.

so I'm getting married in late August and I've decided to wear a suit instead of a tux. I've owned nice Macy's level suits from Ralph Lauren but never a "nice" suit.

Initially I was looking at Brooks Brothers, but I read the suit guide and I have realized nearly all their suits they showed me were fused. Even funnier is their reaction when I mentioned that and they wanted to school me about how it doesn't matter.

That being said, I have a budget of under $1k. I know that's very little, but I already picked out my shoes, Spanx undershirt, socks, and even a nice French cuff BB white shirt, so at this point, all I need is the suit.

The wedding colors are silver and blue (I'll post pictures later tonight) and I wanted a solid black suit for me, and black with light pin suits for the groomsmen.

Is it possible to get a good suit for $1k or under or should I just get a $600 or so BB suit?

This is maybe the most frequently asked question on SF. There are some suits at this price point suggested in the SF101 'What Should Should I Buy?' article. Also there are plenty of other threads about it. Finally, I think at least some of the mid-priced BB suits are half-canvassed, but I'm not a BB expert.

Thanks, I'll go back to that.

My other question is this, if the bride's maids are all wearing a blue dress, then should the groomsmen ties match those?

Just got married yesterday- we all wore grey Washinton fit suits from Suit Supply- came in at 469 apiece and we looked great. colors for the wedding were tiffany blue and choral and i chose for the guys to wear navy with white polkadot ties. the girls were wearing choral dresses with white polkadots. worked very well- navy wasn't a ''wedding colour'' but the men looked very classy and went well with the ladies. I wouldn't suggest pinstripes (pinstripes are business-oriented and i feel like a wedding isn't a place for that), i'm sure manton would disagree.

They don't need to match, but on a personal note that's wht I did at my wedding. It really depends on what you want, it is your wedding after all.

I was in the same predicament until yesterday...

I am getting married on the Highline in New York on 10/20/12 and didn't know if I wanted an off the rack suit or go the made to measure route. After holding out and going to several BB made to measure events, looking for reputable online tailors, bespoke suit tailors, I was advised by the manager at my local Nordstrom to wait till July 20th for their annual sale to see if I would like any of their suiting options at a discount.

Well, I just placed an order for a Joseph Abboud "Hudson" suit in a charcoal birdseye for 899.00. Don't know if there is one in your area but its worth checking out. The suit fabric I chose was normally ~1,295 and the amount of options they offer made me feel like this will be "my" suit. There is also a gamut of new suits on sale from Boss, Varvatos, and the like. Most Boss Black suits are down to 499. Don't want to sound like a shill but have been overwhelmed the past few months with the same issue and thought I could help out.
