A new customer stopped in to get a shirt for his wedding.
Nice grey worsted suit.
the fiance was insisting that he gets an ecru/cream colored shirt to match her dress.
I said no! that it does not matter if his shirt is white and her dress is off white.
I sent him home with three swatches
one was white
one matched the dress
the last was what I call a Vanilla white(also know as a bad white) since it is not a bright white.

he plans to wear brown shoes and belt. someone suggested he wear a black tie. I disagreed. he was happy to hear that answer.

what do I tell this guy?
If he gives into his fiance now, what will happen when he is married?

how old did he look? this is basic...WHITE SHIRT!
a shirt to match her dress would look stupid esp with a gray suit! it's BOTH of their wedding. she should match the maid(s) dresses and NOT his shirt....

the man needs some balls. sheesh. i hate being "matchy"

the bride is foolish to think an ivory shirt would look best witha grey suit.

You're obviously right. Find peace in that fact.

Extrapolating this fellow's married future from his ill-advised selection of his wedding shirt color is a leap at best. He probably doesn't really care. His fiance obviously does. Of the things to argue about, this might not be one of them.

If you do want to nudge him in the "right" direction, then perhaps you could emphasize the flexibility of a white shirt as compared to an ecru shirt ... he is getting an expensive, custom shirt that he'll want to enjoy and wear as much as possible, isn't he?

My brother's wife wanted to do the same thing but I made a persuasive argument. He ended up with a gray suit, white shirt, navy tie.

I originally suggested navy suit/wedding tie but she didn't like the idea of a navy suit, the gray suit was well turned out and the white shirt/navy tie I proposed worked well for it.

It's not going to look terrible but white is preferable.
