Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forums and definitely would like to give kudos to the hundreds of people who have awesome taste here. I read all the time but never had the reason to make a name, but now i do!

My girlfriend (who was born and raised in Spain) has invited me to a wedding in spain this summer. I work for a hedge fund and play hockey in college so I have quite a few suits for a 21 year old, but what I'm wondering is what is the best style to wear in Spain? I don't want to stand out like a sore thumb but at the same time i obviously want to look good. I was thinking either a light grey or beige. I have assorted suits in brown, navy, grey, and black but am definitely not opposed to getting another. I'm assuming their style is much different from the USA and wanted to see what everyone here had to say...Thanks!

Welcome to the forum and greetings from a fellow member of the buy-side here in London.

Being half Spanish myself I can tell you that Summer in Spain can be hellishly hot. Particularly in the cities, which are often deserted as families flock to their beach houses.

You will not look out of place in any kind of regular worsted suit but you may find that you will be most comfortable in a linen or linen blend suit.

If the wedding is taking place during the day, light olive or beige toned suits with a light blue shirt and dark blue tie are a good, comfortable look to shoot for. Finish off with some brown suede loafers or brown, calf lace ups, depending on personal preference and formality of the wedding.

Is it in a big city, provincial town or on the coast. I would be more inclined towards the light grey, grey or navy myself but the formality of the wedding will matter more than anything in your suit choice. Just make sure it is lightweight if it is inland in the summer.

I married a Spanish woman in Spain, so I´ve got some experience in this matter.

I´d suggest a lightweight blue or grey wool suit, plain white shirt, any conservative tie, and black balmorals. Spanish wedding attire is fairly conservative, unless it´s an artsy couple. Spaniards rarely wear white dress shirts to work (it´s about 90% blue where I work), but nearly always do so at social rituals (weddings, baptisms, funerals).

If it´s a church ceremony (as most are), it may actually be cool inside, even if it´s approx. 90 F outside (as much of inland Spain is in mid-summer). Even if it´s hot outside, the sit down meal is normally inside - in that case, expect a/c to be on, though not set to freezing as in the U.S.
