I'm going to a wedding this weekend and need a little help figuring out what to wear. What I have to work with is: a navy blue blazer (blue buttons), khaki pants (pleated or not), and either black or brown belt/shoes. What I would like to know is what colors I should be considering for my shirt, tie, and possibly pocket square? I've heard that season and complexion sort of determine what colors work. Well, ya'll know it's summer. As for complexion, I am light skinned but not pale (probably wouldn't say i'm tan either). I have dark blonde/ light brown hair and blue eyes.

So, i'm looking to hear some ideas for the shirt/tie/?pocketsquare? combo (I can ditch the pocket square). Also thoughts on black or brown shoe/belt. And finally pleat vs no pleat.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and i'm 6'2" in my early 20s, if that makes a difference

Were I in your place, I would do this:

Shirt: Plain White
Tie: Burgundy
Pocket Square: White Linen

This looks best to me. You could also go with a wedding tie, such as shepherd's check if you wish.

Normally I would say brown shoes (or better yet burgundy), but for a wedding, I will have to say black shoes/belt. Not my favorite, but it will look fine.

Lastly, if you are slimmer, flat-front (non-pleated) pants. If you are a heavier fellow or have very large thighs, go with pleated.

A final note: In the future, you might wish to change you blazer buttons. Blue buttons reminds many of an orphan suit jacket. Change them to metal, horn, or anything that will contrast better with the jacket. My personal favorite is nickel or silver.

There are a lot of combinations you can do with a navy jacket and khakis. The one offered above is a very safe bet. Look around and you can see other options. Also quite safe you could do a patterned shirt/solid tie or vice versa.

Here are a couple of waywrn...

You're already pretty casual, so I would not consider anything outside of an oxford and I'd probably go for a black knit tie.

Might be slightly odd if there is one element that is very formal.

This is an odd case or very informal attire for a wedding, so for this I'd go with brown shoes and belt. I think Black looks odd with light tan.

From your description, it sounds like your complexion is low-contrast, so you might want to avoid the plain white shirt with dark tie. Maybe a medium blue shirt with a slightly darker tie would work better.

This is a day time wedding, if that matters.

So, if I go with the first guy's suggestion (seems the simplest/safest), what do I do as far as the shoes go?

I would be wearing: blue blazer, khaki pants, white shirt, burgundy tie, white pocket square.

Should I wear brown or black belt/shoes?

Is black more formal? Brown seems like it would go better. I suppose I would like to know why which one is better than the other.

Thanks so much, you guys have already been a great help.

Cross post front Sartoria Volpe thread:

Was one of the best men at a wedding in Apulia today. Lost 10kg from the first fitting (6kg from the 1st to the 2nd, 2kg more from the 2nd to the 3rd and 2 more since...)
Jacket fits perfectly (shirt French cuff could have been a bit tighter), waistcoat and trouser will need a bit of taking in if I reach my target weight.
