wedding attire ... California Cocktail

Hello,

I'm attending a wedding in palm springs this spring. The wedding attire for the rehearsal dinner is 'California cocktail'. Should i assume this is a slightly less formal version of cocktail? Sport coat slacks no tie? Any recommendations?

I think i will be wearing a tan suit to the wedding itself.

Well a blue blazer and chinos with a button down no tie is known as the "California tuxedo" so I'd assume that would be appropriate.
