Random questions about websites in general:

What annoys you about some websites?
What are "must-haves" within a website?
Do you prefer the home page to feature many links, pictures, blinking etc, or a simpler format?

Thank you,

Fabienne

I like frames. I dont like having to hit <back> over and over to get to options/menu

I dont like overly artistic sites where it's hard to navigate because of the barrage of graphics/images that fly around the screen

I dont like "cool intros" since I never watch them and just hit <skip> Thumbs down on music without a button to turn off sound.

simple is king. less is more.

There's tons of good usability info out there. Googling "web page usability" or "web site usability" is a good start.

No blinky. I like a good site map.

The fewer bells, whistles, and dancing bullshits the better, presuming that you're actually trying to communicate information about yourself/a product/service etc. However, if the point is to make more of an aesthetic impression (e.g., gallery sites,) then I think that Flash can be quite effective.

if justified by the content, a good search function is a "must have."

I have nearly a decade of working experience developing web sites. Keep it simple. Citibank is an example of what not to do; you're just inundated with options when you first load up the page. Frost Bank does a much better job. No Flash. Almost always unnecessary and annoying, expensive to build and doesn't work on at least 10% of your viewer's browsers. To toot my own horn, I think my own website is a good example of simple, effective design.

I hate hate hate it when you click to launch a site, and the window that pops up covers your entire screen, including your taskbar.

It's a website, not an "immersive experience".
