Dress shirts (Including BD's) - always (V-Necks, one size smaller for an extra snug fit)
Polos, silks or other activewear shirt - never

Sorry this is so late, but this is from several years ago from a former member, Mikey, who sums up very well why some of us prefer to wear the A-shirt style of undershirt. My opinion is that we should each wear what we are comfortable in and what suits our style. With the exception of having worn standard t-shirt undershirts, Mikey's situation is very similar to my own. As a white collar professional, I wear them every day with my dress shirt and suit.

Had to jump in to defend wearing wifebeaters. Although they are technically referred to as A-shirts, far more people know them by their more colorful name.

I wear them virtually all the time. I used to wear standard t-shirt undershirts, but switched for a variety of reasons. Wifebeaters still function as undershirts, keeping you warmer in cold weather and soaking up (at least some) perspiration in the summer. Also, they tend to be thinner and, thus, more lightweight than a standard T. Further, because they are somewhat scooped at the neck, they do not show (or at least as much) with an unbuttoned shirt. In short, they're a good compromise between wearing no undershirt (which shows sweat, hair, and skin) and a t (which can be uncomfortable and is obvious under an unbuttoned shirt)

Yeah, I know others in this post think they are "tacky," "blue collar" and "gross." But why? Isn't that just a stupid stereotype? For those that characterize them this way, have you tried to wear 'em to see whether they provide at least some of the benefits of wearing an undershirt, without some of the undesireable side effects?

1. I wear v-necks so the "white" isn't visible beneath my shirt at the neckline (dress shirt w/out tie)

2. Try to find the right "depth of v" so the "shadow" of the v-neck isn't visible through my shirt
- Nautica v-neck too shallow
- Fruit of the Loom too deep
- Calvin Klein just right
- this was confirmed by two of my co-workers in one of the ****-est work conversations ever
- yes - I only buy t-shirts at TJ Maxx or Marshalls

3. For some reason - the shadow of the t-shirt on my upper arms doesn't bother me, but drives me crazy if I can see it at the neck
