Back a few days ago someone started a thread regarding whether a belt is needed with a "business casual" combination of: dress pants, shoes, and shirts, but no tie or jacket. Category of "business casual" clothes, though, encompasses a range garments ranging from khakis to tailored suit trousers, and those responding have focused mostly on tailored business suits.

So, I thought it would be interesting to see what do you do when stepping down a bit in formality on the clothing totem pole, and putting on a pair of jeans? Those who are into the cowboy look wear one. Others, myself included, go without a belt when wearing jeans. Some for reasons they can tell us about may rotate back and forth.

Wearing jeans without a belt is like removing the frosting from your cupcake before you eat it.

Why on earth would you wear any pair of trousers/jeans design for a belt and having belt loops, without? You really should trouble to answer that rather tan create a poll for little good reason.

Regarding the Steve Jobs photo: The sartorial decision to go sans belt is only surpassed by the exquisite choice of shoes.

I too love New Balance, but i prefer 574, 420 or 373 (vintage old school running shoes) instead of 991
For the belt problem i must say that personally i Always wear a belt with jeans, chinos or flannels.
But Jobs' choice is for a smooth waist feeling.

Why would anyone care how Steve Jobs dressed? Serious question.

Cheers,

Geez, I started high school in fall if 1976 a few months after Steve Jobs helped cohort Steve Wozniak construct their first portable computer and shortly before Apple Computers, Inc. became a company.

Remember as a young grade school kid being dressed by parents in an uncomfortable combination of jeans intentionally selected a size or so bigger (because I would "continue growing") along with some cheep flimsy belt to keep them up and in place.

By teenage years I had gotten correctly sized blue jeans and noticed on a few times when I accidentally forgot to put belt on there were more comfortable. Began deliberately going without a belt and as by high school this was an every day occurrence, ceased wearing one with jeans altogether. Guess I have been an adherent of that style longer than Steve Jobs

Today, since I'm not a computer company CEO a suit and tie constitute wardrobe for my work . However, I still keep beltless blue jeans as standby casual outfit.

Always. But, it needs to be a casual belt. Looks a bit ridiculous to wear a dress belt with jeans.
