I coincidentally (considering the recent news) recently read We Need To Talk About Kevin and watched the movie based on the book. I thought both were fantastic, and really explored a topic in a sophisticated way that usually seems relegated to poorly done ABC Family specials and indie films.
In particular, I appreciated how the book, when compared to the movie, left it a little more ambiguous if Kevin was a born sociopath or was a victim of a ****** parent. I tend to think his behavior was a consequence of his upbringing, not an innate propensity for evil, although the film seems to suggests that this was the justification behind what he did.
The only issue I had with the film was John C. Reilly. He's too goofy and seemed miscast in a serious drama.
Thoughts?
