I quite like it because it's thinner than most long sleeve polos I've had before, and the collar has enough firmness to wear under a sport coat without getting crumpled.

I personally disagree. In the case of the photo that you're referencing I see it as just the right amount of sprezzatura. Everything else about the outfit is textbook. The shoes coordinate and aren't outlandish. But they do make a personal statement. To me, it's the essence of knowing the rules and then purposefully breaking just one of them to show some personality.

Fair. There's certainly room for disagreement.

But... I reserve them for summer vibes. If I were going to dress them up, it probably woulnd't be that far up -- I'd probably go with a totally unstructured blazer and some cropped wide denim or something. But I don't really even do that, I mostly wear them poolside and stuff llike that.
