Croak, croak. Looking good, crusty. But I miss the picture of you standing.
The standing shots that I did this morning were neither interesting nor flattering to my aging carcass - when I return to wearing jackets, I'll post standing shots.
The cufflinks are new, BTW - from the Met Museum, adapted from a hardstone Faberge frog in the Met's collection.
you're a slim guy (which is good!), but you seem to have slightly wide hips, which is emphasized by both your shirts and your pants. to me your upper body basically looks like a slightly tapering rectangle, then there's a big flare at the hips (emphasized by the pockets of the pants). the way to get around this is to have your shirts slightly looser all over, so there's less contrast between the super fitted waist of the shirt and the pant pocket flare and your hips. you should also maybe look into MTM or bespoke trousers, if you want to be really particular.
hope that makes sense.
It's fine to wear what you want and all... but it's a little silly and disingenuous to state that you don't care about what people think and that you dress only for yourself. If that was the case, you wouldn't stage posed pictures of yourself and post them on a tumblr dedicated to showing people what you wear, and you wouldn't post them in threads that are essentially there to either gain approval from your "hobby" peers or gather critique. From what I've seen of the reactions to the latter, I'd venture to say most people post pics with the former in mind. Let's be honest with ourselves.
i think its a combination of the former, and wanting to think one looks good. sometimes, we want to look good so bad, and we put so much effort into it, buying the right thing, staging the right pic..... we cant accept that we screwed the pooch. either way, inability to accept that one makes errors, only leads to inability to improve ones self. in dress, and in all areas of life.
I think some of what you're seeing is due to camera angle. I can't be arsed to go back and verify this impression, but I recall that most of his pics are from a fairly low vantage point.
Also, to be clear, I wasn't taking a position on wj4's look, just encouraging him to keep posting.
good, sounds like you know what you're doing. sorry the barber ruined it for you though.
Agreed. I don't think wj4 has a fat arse either...
91F is hot? Jesus I need to move...
Manhattan is like 95% pavement. If the forecast says 91 you can bet that the actual temp below the two story mark is closer to 105.
It's all in what you're used to. My partner, a lifelong resident of the UK, refers to "it's getting hot" when the temperature goes above 20C - a.k.a. 68F. As it is, I'm a New England Yankee, and tolerate cold much better than heat.
It's to be 95F/35C here in NYC today, so no suit for me - linen trousers and a lightweight sport shirt.
Shirt and trousers - BB
Shoes - J & M
Spoiler: Warning: Spoiler!
It's also in how your body reacts to heat... Living in Spain I should be used to extremely hot summers, but I'm not, and can't tolerate them at all. Armpits turn into fountains!
All the Houston talk the last couple of pages made me want to post. Excuse the haggard look, the Bar is in 6 days
Billy Reid polo, J Crew shorts, unlined suede Aldens
Meh crappy picture but I am not dressing up this much again today hah. 100 degrees + humidity in Detroit = bleh. Linen shirt, epaulet lightweight canvas and some boat shoes. Enjoy the heat~
