I think the issue is that those are workwear-style chinos which don't look right combined with a sportcoat and loafers.
I love those trousers. They are Buzz Rickson Military Chinos. I probably won't wear them with a sport coat, but I'll find ways to wear them with more casual fits.

Thanks @Iskander. That's good feedback.

Yes, the issue is not the width (wide leg trousers always look better to me), but the different grade of formality/casuality. As I wrote in a recent post, an outfit has to be coherent: a tailored jacket needs tailored, creased trousers, jeans and chinos don't suit because they are too casual.

Nice colour composition, by the way.

A sports coat/blazer looks good with jeans or Chinos if they are reasonably fitted .
Plenty of examples on various SF threads.

As promised the phone is now higher (at face level). I'm not sure it really makes a difference, but I'd appreciate feedback.

Outfit looks great. Awesome color combo. The width and fabric of the pants is not the issue IMO. I think the pants need a crease in the front or at the very least you need to iron out the crease on the side seam so they don't look so flared at the leg opening. I think the front crease helps chinos look more formal and thus a better match with a sport coat.

I came to the same conclusion. The pants were pressed but to your point, the front crease would make it more formal.

Yes, you can press a crease in your chinos, unlike in your jeans, but it will always look like the compromise it is.

I took the pics outside today to see if the color is better.

I know some of you think that high waisted, wide leg pants aren't flattering. Thanks for the feedback, but I'm going to continue to explore them. Also, I have too many of them to change. 😀

P.S. I adjusted the t-shirt sleeve so it doesn't show after I took the picture.
