Waxing suede and waxing cotton are going to be pretty different processes, though. Or, at least, I would assume so. I'd like to know how to do that.

I have sanded the surface of a calf shoe to basically a nubuck surface (very smooth suede) and reapplied tan (nearly neutral) wax polish to them. It looks sort of interesting, but not like commercial waxed suede.

It's hard to describe. It mostly went back to looking like polished leather, just a bit duller. I'll try to dig them out and get a pic sometime.

that's almost exactly like what I had in mind. I wanted to buy the clarks desert boots in oily leather; but they're all out of my size everywhere; so I was thinking i'd get some black suede ones and work something out. what grit sandpaper did you use and what kind of wax?

I believe I used 400 or maybe 240(?) grit wet-or-dry since that's what I had lying around. Use a fine one then move up if you're not getting anywhere.

The polish was just Kiwi tan polish, but you could also use a beeswax polish or something for oiled leather.
