Dress watch?

http://www.seiyajapan.com/product/S-...h_SARB033.html That 6R15 movement is a killer under $500. Casual watch?

http://chronograph.com/store/mli_vie...idproduct=2479 A classic, looks good with pretty much anything. Save 30 bucks if you get the K model, I'm just partial to the J for some reason. OR

http://chronograph.com/store/mli_vie...?idproduct=159 I'm wearing this right now. A little smaller than the 007 above. The stock bracelet kindof sucks, if you like this style and get a seiko diver like this shoot me a message and I'll give you the email of a guy in Hong Kong who sells solid link bracelets for these for like 25 bucks. A little of both?

http://www.archimede-uhren.de/EN/Pilot-H.htm New kids on the scene, but pretty solid by all accounts. I like the historical model because of the blue hands and sterile dial, but if you don't like the crown the regular model comes with a standard one. There's also a midsize 39mm model if he doesn't like the big watch look. Brown or black leather, or a stainless steel bracelet for a little more $.

As a watch fanatic, Oris, Hamilton, or Swiss Army at the high end of your range, or Seiko/Citizen at the lower end. You need to let us know his motivation for wearing it, dress, work, swimming, etc. Oris and Hammy are some of theleast expensive high quality automatic watches you can find, and Swiss Army makes some as well that are good quality, though they mostly use quartz. Does he want quartz or auto? Check out the Swiss Army Ambassador, a good place to start.

+1 i got my dad a swiss army last year, and it met his needs well. he recently retired so he rarely gets too dressed up, and he spends alot of time in the woods hunting in the winter and in the lake in the summer. so he needed something durable and water resistant. i believe this is a newer version of the watch i got him-

Hamilton, Seiko or Stowa.

All were already mentioned but they get my vote (although I have yet to see a Stowa in person their pics are very nice and they are highly regarded).
