There was a brief blurb in the Washingtonian that just came out that a new high-end mini-mall will be opening across from where Cartier is currently just above the DC line in Chevy Chase, MD. Apparently Tiffany will be closing and moving across the street to the new space also (presumably to a bigger location). The article said a new Ralph Lauren store will be opening in October 2005, as will a Barney's Co-Op.

As far as I know the RL sore set to open in October is the new location of the Georgetown store.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Surely there's more foot traffic in Georgetown than Chevy Chase. But, I suppose there are more high-end shoppers in Chevy Chase, what with Tiffany, Cartier, NM, Saks, Saks Jandel, etc.

I don't know a lot about the project, but it's going to be a great one from what I have heard. The area surely needs it.

Chevy Chase isn't as pedestrian friendly as Georgetown, IMO.

I saw this a few months ago on the washingtonpost.com website.  The Barney's is not the Barney's New York store, so no reason to get excited.

Here's a link to the press release announcing the high end tenants of this new mall, including Ralph Lauren: http://www.cclandco.com/documents/Pr...ase3.1_001.pdf
Interesting link. The RL store is going to a 2-story "shop" of over 16,000 square feet, with a design (interior I assume) modeled on the NYC Rhinelander mansion. That's really huge. What type of clothes will the Barney's Co-Op carry? I assume it is like an Off-Fifth (Saks)? Does anyone know?

The Co-op carries contemporary brands and targets a younger demographic. Tons of designer denim and brands like Juicy, Theory, D&G, Generra, James Perse, Original Penguin, Joie, Project E, PS by Paul Smith, Comme des Garcons shirts. They also (staying true to Barneys form) will carry many lesser know or emerging brands.
The denim selections are quite comprehensive. It will be a welcome addition to the DC Metro area.

On the RL store, the story that I got from Ian, one of the managers, is a bit more complex.

The 'Georgetown Store' is currently in a temporary location on CT Ave near the Barnes&Noble. It will move over to slightly larger digs on Wisconsin (I think in the spot that was occupied by Britches, but if not there in that vicinity - think Cafe Milano).

It will not be the 'mansion-esque' store as we knew it (back by Dean & Deluca/Cady's Alley), but will be a step up from the current temporary digs.

The store in Chevy Chase will be the 'fabulous' RL in DC. It will have a much larger selection of RLPL and more of the clubby atmosphere that the old Georgetown store had.

I think that it will be worth a visit once it opens, and am looking forward to checking it out...

Just went through the promotional website, and they emphasized how close the development will be to the Friendship Heights metro. When touting the high-end stores in the area they somehow forgot Filene's... For those who want to access the promo website and see photos w/out downloading the pdf, go here: http://www.theadagency.com/chevychase/ChevyChase.html The virtual tour is super-cheesy, but lets you know that in the end they did all of this luxury development so that they could get an easement for a huge office complex. Gotta love it.

Spent the day in Philadelphia yesterday. The sales girls at the Barney's Co-op told me that Barney's is phasing out the Co-op brand to avoid confusion, and that the store would be converting to a Barney's New York very soon. They also told me that the last Co-op outside of Philly, the Georgetown store, would be converting as well. Fingers crossed that this information is correct!
