Gentlemen,

Is there a method or test that can determine if a suit is 100% wool?

I just received a suit from Sam Surin out of Bangkok,Thailand and think I may have been taken. During their trunk show, I selected the fabric and stressed I wanted 100% wool, no blends. Now that I have the suit, I’m noticing very small clear fibers that are thinner than hair. They’re so small, I can’t tell if they are a part of the fabric or just lying on the surface. They are stretchy and slightly curly and after pulling on them, they tend to coil up. The label in the suit is “Primo Lana, Biella Italy.” I understand this doesn’t mean anything.

I’m pretty sure the fabric is a synthetic blend. Is there a way I can confirm this?

I think the only way to put your mind at rest would be to send a fabric sample off to a lab for analysis. I’ve no idea about the practicalities of doing this. Good luck ?

If the suit fits you well and the fabric doesn't, like, scratch you or cause a rash, I wouldn't worry about the fabric content at this point.

Also disappointed this wasn't an alien thread but if you have a scrap of the material you can check if it burns or melts.

Yeah, sorry to disappoint. Guess that marketing class taught me something.

Normally I don’t think I would have noticed this. But last month, i flew to a conference and brought a suit I purchased in Korea. When I took it out of the garment bag, these fibers were all over the shoulder. I’m the friction in the bag caused this.

So sure, the suit looks nice and feels nice. But if it’s like my last one, it won’t hold up.

Is the inside of the garment back textured? It may be where those are from.

That looks more like a nylon filament thread used for sewing. Some place use a clear thread like that so they don't have to change thread colors when sewing to save time. If it was a synthetic added to the weave it would not look like that. Flip the collar up and see if you find stitching done with that style of thread. It is probably a loose thread. If you don't see anything sewn with that thread type it may be the thread they padded the collar with and not visible. Wouldn't be concerned about it

Yeah, I can’t find any clear stitching. The thread under the collar is black. These fibers significantly thinner than threads. They’re are about as thin as spider web. Here’s a few more pics.

If it’s synthetic, if you take a lighter to a strand, it will melt. If organic, it will burn.
