I'm now building my wardrobe up with good quality clothing. I would be most grateful if I could get an idea of what essentials I need to have for my wardrobe. As much as I love wearing a well made bespoke suit, I do wear a uniform to work so I do not require a suit for each day of the working week.

A white oxford shirt (Black Fleece by Brooks brother is my vote)
Jeans - Levi's 501's or the APC Standard, etc.
A gray V-neck cashmere sweater
A pair of nice leather loafers
A slim cut navy suit - and use the jacket as a blazer to wear with the first 4 items listed

What kind of look are you going for? What will you do when wearing your non-work related clothing? Where do you live (hot6 cold? rainy?)

What do you require for each day of the week? If you're wearing a uniform then your actual essentials are probably limited to a rotation of appropriate shoes. Otherwise, Will has written about this on his blog. http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/...-wardrobe.html and http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/...-wardrobe.html and http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/...ny-shirts.html

I am looking to build my wardrobe as well. I wear casuals at work and never get a chance to wear suit or ties. Although many people at work wear polo-style tshirts (I am in IT, what do you expect???) I do wear shirts and slacks at work.

Currently, I have too many trendy items and am looking to move to a classic, timeless look. I like slimmer fits but since I have a 14.5" collar, 36" chest and 34" waist and find it hard to get OTR shirts to fit me (I used to buy Hugo Boss and Theory slimfits), I have started to go the MTM route.

Thanks!
