I've bought a pair of Clark's Wallabees. I don't like 'em, they're rubbing the hell out of my right foot and they just feel awkward to wear. Problem is, I've already worn them outside, not much just a bit of walking but the crepe sole has blackened.

Is there anyway I can clean them up so they're returnable? Besides the sole they're tip-top.

Nope, take the loss it's your fault not the stores.
I wouldn't like to purchase a pair of returned shoes that had been worn my someone else.

Sell them as lightly used on the B&S forum. Don't be an asshole.

What is this - The Moral Forum!?

I'd rather be an asshole with an £70 in my pocket than morally righteous and an empty wallet!

then be honest and say that the shoes are worn but killing your feet. email the customer service of the store you bought them from. just be totally honest. it usually works for at least store credit.

This is the equivalent of a cook dropping your food, picking it up, dust it off, and continue to serve it to you.

If you can clean them up and they look like new and the sole is not worn then what is the difference. Most household cleaners and a wet towel should do the job.

You think retailers always play fair?

Exactly Nopike. Retailers don't qualify on questions of conscience. Anyway, I've spoken to the customer care line and they say that if they're causing discomfort then they can be returned regardless of whether they've been worn or not. We'll just have to see if that's the case tomorrow.

From experience...

Take a very sharp straight edge razor (titanium works best) and slice the bottom layer of crepe by about 1/16th of an inch from the sole and heel. Then take extra fine sandpaper to shave down the bottom crepe so it looks uniform. Get "sand" non-oil paint (Benjamin Moore #87) and slather it on the sides of the crepe sole. Next, preheat an oven (hopefully a convection) to 425 and put the shoes on a water-soaked cedar plank. Put them in the oven for 35 minutes. Take them out let cool for five to 10 minutes. When room temperature, apply 1/4 brown, 1/4 black, 1/2 cordovan polish (Kiwi anyone?) to your shoes along with 2/3rds a tablespoon of Sno-Seal. Should look like new.

Jesus. The post itself was almost too much effort to read let alone actually doing it!

nothing about being morally righteous. it is just about being cool, simply put. what youre trying to do is not cool. i guess it's not for you, but somethings dont have a 'small' price to it. being an asshole so i can have a hundred bux? not me. and not for most people here i tell you that.
