As the topic mentions, I'm in the market for a wallet as a gift for my dad; and I could really use some help, as I don't know much about who makes good ones and how much I should expect to pay. A quick trip to Sak's and Neiman's showed the average price to be about $150-250, but if possible I'd like to think I could get something just as good on eBay/online in the $50-100 range. As far as styling goes, I'm looking for a full-sized wallet and not just a credit card holder, and I want something that's high quality and conservative (e.g. not trendy like Prada/Gucci or flashy like Paul Smith). Brown would preferable to black, though it's not a huge issue. Any suggestions on where/what to look for?

Neiman Marcus (Chicago) has nice wallets by Botega Vanetta on sale right now for less than $100.

I've got a logoed Louis Vuitton canvas that has lasted me so long I don't remember when I bought it...7 or 8+ years ago. $200- 225 then, not sure how much now. I've also heard Ghurka makes a great wallet. I think they're around $150.

I have a really nice Bally checkbook holder/wallet in black leather, never used. If you're interested, I'll borrow a camera and post pics.

I received a great Ferragamo wallet for my birthday last month. The leather quality is fantastic.

My LV logo wallet will have its 20th birthday this summer. It has been with me for almost every waking moments during the past two decades.

Vuitton beyond all the hype, and logo-mania of their items still makes a quality product.

Bulgari has fine leather goods. As does Cartier. I have a Versace wallet that is quite durable.

Try a Louis Vuitton Glace zip wallet. They age very nicely.

Anyone else have any experience with Piquadro wallets (I've never heard of the brand before)? There were two on the above link that looked really attractive at $85. I couldn't find any real sales at the Houston Galleria (our NM was asking a discount price of $150 for the Botega's). Most of the well-known brands recommended here were still in the $200 range, which at this point is more than I can afford. So if there aren't any naysayers I think I just might order one of those Piquadros. Of course if anyone knows any reputable ebay sellers who might have one of the other brands recommended in my price range, I would still be interested in that.

You might be interested in a new Ebay listing for an NWT brown Hermes wallet. The buy it now price is $50.00. The seller guarantees authenticity, but I don't know one way or the other.
