Any help suggestions would be appreciated.

I am looking to buy my girlfriend a new wallet for her in the next couple of weeks. Am willing to spend 200 or so, but would prefer to do it on a nontrendy pattern; preferably out of leather. I have been looking at some of Longchamp's wallets on their site and like the understated look and the breadth of color options. I think she would too.

FWIW, she is 25, does not like LV, Gucci, or Dior (good for me) to give you an idea of style. Does anyone have any suggestions on other brands or firsthand experience with Longcahmp? I am in Boston geographically and will be in NY within the month, so I have access to most brands/stores.

    Thanks in advance.

Lancaster (France) is an excellent manufacturer of small leather goods but I don't know about availability here in the land of the freedom fry.

Since you are located in the States, let me suggest a very good American brand: Lambertson Truex.  And since you are heading off to NY, drop by Asprey.

    edited for spelling error.

I can recommend Mulberry Also very good quality: Pickett For something a little different, take a look at Vaja under accessories and the MV61 wallet - they are custom made and you can specify features and colours from a wide range.

I find it expensive for what you get... You can certainly do better.

My wife isn't big on jewels (lucky for me), so the last two Christmas's I've bought her a wallet and a carry-all bag and in doing so have checked out the good brands that NM and Saks have to offer. I liked Longchamp - - the designs are clean and classic while modern and un-dowdy. They don't have a gaudy label on them either. Prices are not off the charts. Also check out the wallet made by Bottega Veneta -- very nice; I got one for my wife. A bit more than $200 though.

In all honesty, I have never purchased anything from them, thus I was just mentioning a brand that was less in public eye, than say LV or Gucci. I have two wallets: a black calf one from Cartier and brown suede one from Argentina (my everyday wallet). I can say with certainty that the $20 one from Argentina is 10 times better than the over $200 one from Cartier. Jon.

I was in Sak's about 2 weeks ago after my exams, and stopped by to check out the Lambertson Truex goods. Pretty good construction, nice leather, but much too contemporary in the design department.

If she likes casual, and likes the travelwear look, the Ghurka outlet had a few nice pieces on sale. If you decide to visit New York, I would also suggest stopping by Henri Bendel, though their stuff appears to be a bit more trendy, and Testoni, who periodically has a few real winners around sale time.

FWIW, I'm currently using a beat-up brown calfskin Brooks Brothers tri-fold that I bought <$20. I keep kicking myself for not buying a pebble-grain Ghurka when I was the only person in the store on the Friday of President's Day... an additional 20% off everything in the store.

The women are very much more brand conscious that any one can believe. Get her something from Dooney & Bourke and you will fil that need.

If you want to ge big time, look for a Hermes Kelly bag. That will take a year's bonus.

My two cents. Becareful on the type of leather that you choose as they tend to get scratched easily in women's handbags . Bottega Veneta and Prada for instance use a lot of soft, luxurious calf-skin leather to make their wallets. They feel good on the hand but don't last.
