Wallet alternatives

I am tired of my wallet. I endup packing it with so much stuff that i dont need.
I am thinking of using my Tiffany money clip and a business card holder.
BUTTT i dont know where to find a good or even neato looking business card holder?
I want two holders one for work and one for the nightlife.
I might go back to tiffany's for a work car holder...butt as for the nite-time one, I cant find any niffty looking ones.
Any ideas?

I HATE big overstuffed wallets. They look awful. They suggest, in my mind, a disorganized person. Also, ... I suspect some people at certain socio-economic strata like to have the fattest possible wallet in order to suggest to all who might be checking out their butts that the wallet is stuffed with cash.

I used to carry a jacket breast pocket-type wallet, but since my office went "business casual" I don't use that wallet anymore. For a couple years I went wallet-less, just carrying some cash, drivers license and a credit card in my pocket on a daily basis. Since then, I've decided I like to have a tad more organization. My solution -- get a wallet that is ultrathin. One that does NOT open/fold and that does NOT hold cash. I have small black alligator card holder from Saks (house label, I think) -- I carry in it 3 or 4 business cards; drivers license; Visa card; and AmEx card. The alligator skin itself is very thin too. I don't like money clips either -- I think they are additional clutter in one's pocket. Just a few neatly folded bills.

Kabert, I agree that a money clip can add bulk, but at times it seems to be necessary. Having a few crisp bills is fine when you have just left the ATM, but what do you do when you buy a cup of coffee with that $20 and get a bunch of singles and fives in return?

I HATE big wallets: My combination is as follows: A plain, sterling silver Tiffany money clip A small credit card case made by Alden of shell cordovan leather: http://www.alden-of-carmel.com/Catalog/Cordovan/ The credit card case carries three credit cards, two identification cards, and the magnetic security access card for my office. This is all that I require on a daily basis. Anything else I need (airline club cards, business cards, etc.), I keep in my briefcase. It is great not to have a giant bulging wallet in my pocket. I can carry the money clip in one pocket, and the credit card case in the other, and spread the bulk around too, compared with one wallet with both money and cards. As for a money clip, I like using it compared with just keeping the money folded in my pocket. It keeps it all in one place and organized.

Kai, that's my method too. Cards, etc. that aren't needed on a daily basis are kept elsewhere -- I keep some of them in my office and some of them in a convenient location at home.

As for the money clip, I've actually never used one, so perhaps I ought to try one out before poo-pooing it. I rarely carry much cash anyway though -- never more than $100, unless I'm going on vacation or have an expensive evening ahead. I might have to check out the ones by Tiffany's though.

I have four different ways of carrying money / plastic.

1) Cartier wallet in black calfskin, small size: I only use it if I need to go to a more "appropriate" situation and a money clip perhaps might seem incorrect, regardless the material it is made of. It is an elegant wallet and since I usually only put some cash, my drivers license, and one or two credit cards in it, it stays relatively slim in my pocket (front pocket, I really dislike a wallet sticking out of the rear pocket), unless I sit down and then it does slightly protrude producing a slightly square outline in a less than flattering manner.

2) Brown suede wallet: made in Argentina (it was a gift) of the purest hide you have ever seen (that is until it acquired wet spots in Florida's slightly tropical weather), it has a zip coin-holder on the right side of the wallet, so sometimes it gets a bit full with tons of useless coins (and they are useless, because if I used them they would not pile up in my wallet), I usually tend to use this wallet everyday, because it has room fro all my cards (credit, insurance, drivers license, etc...).

3) Plastic (I hear hissing, let me explain) waterproof wallet: for those extracurricular activities that require immersing ones self in sweat / water / other liquids (soap, car cleaning products, etc...).

4) Silver money clip: it is very small and can accommodate some cash plus 3 or 4 plastic cards without ruining them. Because of the small size it is not to heavy and it is easy to remove and replace items in a quick manner.

there really is IMO no way to carry necessities and NOT have it look like what we all don't want. I've tried everything from a regular folding wallet, to a slim card/cash-only case, to a money clip, to front and back pocket- they can all be seen to some degree. The money clip is the least troublesome but also least practical IMO. Ah, keys and wallets, necessities that infuriate those trying to look good

i use this with conjunction of the car's coin tray and a unique coin holder [at the office] presented to me by my g/f. coach money clip/card holder

All this wallet talk, made me go out and buy a new sterling silver money clip. It is smaller than the previous one I own and the new one is relatively light and compact, but is circular on top and it allows for a large area of grip. It can easily carry a few hundred dollars worth of bills and 1-2 credit cards and a driver's license.

i decided on going back to tiffany's for a card case. i gotz me's da "streamerica" card case. it helps alot but it adds more weight to my pocket.
why can this just be easy?
this week i will stop at coach to check out "gqelements" idea .

I've never used a money clip before.

How do you hold both cards and cash in a money clip? Do you fold the cash around the cards? Would the cards slip out?

Does using different sized banknotes (common outside the US) present a problem for a money clip?
