Am I the only one who thought the first one was pretty bad already? I think I preferred Working Girl... [IMG]

Both, really. Open to interpretation. [IMG]

Having now met some Gordon Gekko types as i travel through life, the movie was either much too generous to that kind of persons' personality and intellect, OR I still haven't met the real big-timers.

Speaking of which, the film's message is as subtle as a brick to the face.

A brick to the face has more subtlety than anything Oliver Stone puts out.

[IMG] Sorry but you're, what, a year out of college? First of all, you haven't traveled through life, you're barely through security at the departing airport; second, I really doubt you've spent any meaningful time with anyone that could be compared to Gekko's character in that movie, which renders your opinion fairly insignificant, despite your tremendous "personality and intellect".

You would be surprised...maybe not Gordon Gekko, but sort of Gordon Gekko lite. I'm not trying to seem cool or important, I'm sure you know lots of big ballers. I have just been working with some (to my eye) astonishingly rich people lately, and they are not that exciting [IMG]

If your point is that one doesn't need to be intellectually impressive to make a lot of money, of course that's right. Conversely, the only thing that's more common than that is the number of broke intellectuals with good personalities...

I'm not exceptionally connected either, I'm just a worker, a link in the chain, but through my job have met a couple of the "big-timers" as you call them - the ones you learn about in class and read about in the papers. All had enormous personalities (often egos too) and were exceptionally smart.

My point was, the people I met who felt should have been more like Gekko were less like Gekko than I had hoped.

    That's a good thing, right?

Shia LaBeouf is a HORRIBLE pick by Stone. Don't see why Stone didn't just focus the movie on Gordon, and him hustling in this current economy. Stone should of left the "older guy trying to mentor the young guy" bullshit story line behind him.

Something tells me Boiler Room is going to go down in history as the better Wall Street sequel.

In practical terms, yes. In terms of excitement, no. [IMG]

I can't believe Shia LaBeouf has a career.
