So who here wakes up early? I'm 18 and I usually stay up till 1 on weekdays/3-4 weekends and wake up accordingly...always have since I was 13-14. Needless to say I consistently don't get enough sleep and when I do I usually oversleep and end up tired all day.

For the next two weeks I'm trying something, I'm going to wake up at 6am sharp every morning but go to bed when I'm tired, I can't stand forcing myself to sleep. Any tips on making it work

what are my chances?

And overall do you think changing my sleep pattern to wake up 6am (and go to bed at 9-11) will result in better productivity, better success at work? I always wanted to be that guy that is at the gym at 6:15 and by 7 ready to get to work(university in my case..). Another problem is every week I end up going out once or twice and coming home at 3-5 in the morning so that kind of messes up my routine. What are your experiences?

you'll be very tired in a day or three.. Thats when you'll need the discipline to go to bed earlier, if not you're not gonna hear the alarmclock go off in 5 days

I like starting the day early and seeing the sun rise, but hate the feeling of waking up tired.

I'm currently getting up at 5:30 so I can squeeze work, gym, and school into a day.

From personal experience, I think you might succeed in shifting your wakeup time earlier, but it will be less easy to also shift your bedtime. I wish I would feel dead tired at 11, but I don't, so bedtime for me is from 12-1.

Come to think about it that's my problem today I slept 3-6 and I'm feeling fine and I can do that for maybe another day or two but after that I will be very tired. Maybe try to gradually fall asleep sooner taking it back 30-45 minutes every night.

I started this same thread maybe two months ago, because I was dedicated to getting up early.

But I have the same problem as you. Ultimately, 1-3 nights a week, I stay out until 12:00, 2:00, 4:00 AM or so. I'm 24. That's what I'm doing while I'm young. When I get married and no longer have to chase tail every night, I'll get up early.

http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/200...n-early-riser/ Best and most useful advice I've found. The trick is that you have to be VERY disciplined to get out of bed at the same time every day, without slipping. It's hard if you're staying out till 1AM on a Friday night, too. In that case, get up at the same time and take a nap later in the day. I try to wake up at 7:30 every day and it's mighty hard to get started, but you sustain it easily. Another trick is to sleep with your shades or blinds open so the daylight helps wake you.

Not going to sleep at the same time every day causes a lot of anxiety and fatigue... I can go to sleep at 10PM every day, but if I sleep in late just once, it messes up my entire week...

asleep around 11, on early mornings I'm up at 4:30 to run a few miles. Late mornings are 5:45 or 6:00 if I really feel like sleeping in. Weekends: 6:30 or 7-ish

Yeah, the problem is that it is simply not realistic for [90% of] unmarried (and some married) city-dwellers to go to sleep at the same time each night. During the workweek, sure. Weekends? Not so much.

I wake up between 6-6:30 almost every morning. I could sleep till 8 and still make it to work on time, but I realized I'm much more productive early in the morning. So I get to the office on average an hour and a half before everyone else. My motivation to do anything decreases exponentially as the day goes on, and after 4pm I'm lazy as ****.

Do people raise eyebrows when you leave 1.5 hrs earlier?

I have never been good with sleep. I get up around 11am-1pm every day. Makes it kinda tough to have muc of a social life at times but I do like my sleep.
