Wake Attire

What do you guys usually wear to a wake? Would a suit be too formal for the event? If you would wear a suit.....navy or charcoal? Thanks;

No, it's not too formal, it shows respect for the occasion. I think black would be the most appropriate suit, but absent that, navy or charcoal are fine. Obviously you don't want to go crazy with a tie or shirt. Plain white shirt, dark, preferably solid, tie. Your dress should reflect the somber mood.

Yah, I was thinking solid navy suit, off white shirt, navy tie and black captoes. Only reason im hesitant is because I feel very few people besides immediate family will be wearing suits, so I dont want to come off as a show off or anything like that.

No, your suit is properly restrained, you're not showing off, you're showing respect to the family and the deceased. I'd be really surprised if anyone took it as you showing off your suit.
