I try to hit up a Waffle House each time I visit relatives in Baton Rouge since it's really my only excuse to visit the South. Back in L.A. the only waffle worth eating is at a gas station-converted coffee place near Lake Arrowhead called the Lake Gregory Coffee Co. Batter from scratch with a taste worth the 90 min drive out there, no question. Only served on weekends and usually not during the winter...

+1 on Waffle House. Although it won't help your LDL count, it's definitely good eats.

[IMG] When I first started going there, the sign was partially out of order and it spelled out " affle House". My wife and I eat there often when travelling, and still affectionately call it the awful house When travelling and I am hungry, and I have to pull off the interstate for some petrol, and the choice is sit down for twenty-five minutes and eat freshly cooked burgers or breakfast at any hour, or go stand in line with 50 other people at McDonald's - Waffle House wins every time. I have had to sit at the counter and eat while a guy smoked a whole pack of cigarettes. So now I usually sit in the second-hand smoking section. I used to work with a guy who loved to eat at Waffle House, because it was the one place where he found it was acceptable to smoke while he ate. The clientelle often leaves much to be desired, but you can't beat the food for what it is. My favorite: two eggs over easy - soft yokes, wheat toast - dry, hash browns, and country ham steak ( the one with the "West Virginia engagement ring" round bone), coffee or unsweetened ice tea - depending on the hour of the day or night.

Haven't been to a WH in years, but can anyone confirm that all the songs on the jukeboxes are about WAFFLES?

there are definitely songs about waffles and the Waffle House but not all of them. most of the others are old school R&B from the 50s/60s.

Undoubtedly, given WH's evident popularity among the SF crowd.

I practically lived at WH when I was in studying for my undergrad in Atlanta. Where else can you get a deliciously grilled chicken sandwich with harshbrowns and unlimited coffee for under 6 bucks? Oh, and you can get this 24/7. I ate that stuff at least 3 times a week. I've never seen a WH closed for any reason. We liked WH so much we had their CEO on our school's Board of Trustees. He also spoke at my commencement address (though not the main speaker). I make it a point to visit a WH whenever I go to Atlanta. I'd still be all over WH if they had branches in the NE.

P.S. I also recommend a double of harshbrowns and pour a cup of chilli on top. Perfect munchies after driking. The sweet tea is addictive too.

One here has to close sometimes because of shootings/ugly incidents/etc. But the hashbrowns are good.

When I was in TN I would come home after high school and shower then take a long nap. I was up most of the night and every now and then someone would IM me "I cant sleep, want to go to WH?" at 3am. The best part about it is that it's open 24/7.

I LOVE the Waffle House and its close cousin - the Huddle House. Embodiment of everything good and bad about the South.

When I was in college, I used to go to Waffle House all the time. My friends and I would pull all-nighters in architecture studio and have breakfast at 4 AM there.

They have these plates that are oval shaped with "Wafle House" written in wavy writing that looked like a cheesy Halloween font. We used to jokingly call those "scary plates."

    arrrgh...so evil with the menu...

seeing as this IS a forum on fashion, all i wanted was a Waffle House t-shirt with the black on yellow "Waffle House" against a white background.

    but no, there's this instead:

and the other choices aren't that much better:
