Uh, I am not making a going away post, as I post in CE from time to time on the rare occasion I see an intelligent debate going on. Just observing that I have noticed my posting going way down, and I think it's just boredom, being too busy at work, and then the ******* nitpickers who miss the forest for the trees, amidst their own B&S accroutements..

lol, never.. I've been there.. I derive no pleasure and plenty of discomfort from the experience.. Besides, maybe the khaki/french blue corps in IT know something we don't?

I notice the same thing, I think.

I think it's that gnatty's jackets can sometimes appear "flat" or "angular" (as in being composed of Euclidian plane figures rather than being more three-dimensional). To hyperbolically exaggerate the point beyond reality in the hope of illustrating an underlying less dramatic point, it's as if the jackets are hanging flat on a hanger rather than being curved around your body. I don't think this is a pure effect of photo perspective but probably secondary to your underlying anatomy. The jackets generally obey all the "interweb-laws" of good fit in terms of allowances, lengths, etc, but somehow sometimes lack fullness/expression.

It really would be fascinating to see how a bespoke tailor would adapt to this. I suspect adding some fullness to the chest and carefully thinking about the shoulder lines/degree of padding. I wonder what you'd look like in something like an A&S DB cut, for instance. I suspect it could be quite interesting.

The most recent suit he's posted is one of the best I've seen from him, because it doesn't seem to have this issue around the shoulders/chest (though it's still there a bit in the progression through the waist).

Gnatty has a very nice eye for overall colour-play, fab shoes and has some great other details. Wouldn't want to see him stop posting.

I'll confess that part of the reason I dress up more than I need to is because I try to get into this thread. But these days I'm finding myself dressing this way more and more without thinking about it (though this got halted because I'm turning into a denimhead and got some jeans that I'm working on). I'll be pretty happy once I get a comfortable feeling with colors. It's definitely my weak point and I'm using the shotgun approach more often than not.

Anyways thanks for the thread.

There are some truly fantastic dressers here, iammatt, yfyf, yourself, foof, edmorel, PG, neo, but from time to time, I just find myself thinking I am just out of touch for not appreciating fits that seem to generate raves.. Maybe I am too old for this message board ****..

No, my utility function with respect to clothing may be anomalous here, but the incremental benefit I would get in terms of utility from doing bespoke would not compensate me for the extra money and more importantly, the time that an extremely Type A, hyperactive person like me would need to spend on fittings and all that other horrid time sucking stuff. For me, clothing is a manifestation of one of my compulsive behaviors (I like shopping), much like cigar smoking, and nothing more. It's why I often shake my head here at home and think to myself they're clothes, you wear them..

I think good quality pics are essential if you want to get in this thread. It is more than just a good fit.
