spacepope advertised the poll in the CM WAYWRN so expect some of us fuddy-duddies to pop up here.

What I found interesting what that while the contest is focused on breaking CM traditions of proportionality, the looks that were most successful (in terms of leading the current voting) were also the looks that appealed most to my fairly traditional eye. For example, diniro, futuresailors and kgfan5 all got votes from me. Why? Because I suspect that if you're going to deliberately create tension in the proportions compared to a more classical fit, it's easiest to do so by creating new proportions that still - perhaps unintentionally? - echo some other pre-existing archetype.

What I mean is that those three (and there were several others that did this too) created very accessible new proportions because they fed into some fairly well-known concepts. Diniro echoes a 19th century gypsy, futuresailors might be more appropriately called futurePatton, and kgfan would slot neatly into any number of bleak, dystopian science fiction films. I'm not saying they're unoriginal or simple looks; they clearly required imagination and thought. But does the echoing of pre-exisiting accepted proportions that make them successful examples of proportion play? I don't know. I liked them, and clearly they're popular fits with you guys too, but is accessibility a measure of success if the aim is to deliberately distort proportion? They're still fairly conventional in an aesthetic sense (albeit very unconventional from a CM tailored look).

The much "harder" looks to appreciate were those who achieved almost inhuman proportions: thatoneguy being the most extreme example of this, with the grossly extended torso and I'd say Neo isn'y far behind with the almost Frankenstein's monster bulk and dismemberment of his first fit. Does that make them the most succesful? I'm not sure.

    Interesting challenge!

Thoughtful comments HF. Are you sure we can't tempt you over the wall more regularly? WAYWT has plenty of space too...

As articulate and constructive as always and summed up my own thoughts far more eloquently than I could.

This challenge was excellent and the participants showed a depth and variety that those of us (blessed or) cursed with the safety of wearing formal business wear each day can only envy.

Particularly interested in Parker's and MoK's entries as I'd guess we're not a miilion miles apart in age (but clearly leagues apart in imagination and creativity).

    Great stuff.

Great challenge! Hard to pick favourites here. I went with Diniro, Parker and 3 Prague winter. For no other reasons than immediate synch with personal aesthetic preferences.
