So I put some thought into this.

My initial reaction was the following picture:
It was the picture that I felt most summed me up. But that isn't the result of just the clothes, though they certainly are a factor. I think most of my suit fits are out as far as being the most "me," unless they are very casual/country suits, of which I have several. So this works in that regard. I do love me some country suits. But I like the picture more than the fit, so I opted not to go with this.

This is pretty god damned Claghornesque. Three pattern, with one resolving into solids. Shatnez jacket with patch pockets. Not quite navy jacket with gray trousers.

I remember this as being a fit that I was really comfortable with, so I included it as a possibility. I felt very much like me walking around that day. But as I recall, I had done some sartorial experimentation in the days preceding this.

My ultimate choice was this. I'm taking this over the shatnez two pictures up for a couple of reasons:
    - I like texture. I love texture. The shatnez fit had none while this has it in both the pants and the tie.
    - The tie is in the red/brown range, which is way more me than green. In general, there is more brown in this fit (the pants are brownish gray), and I love me some brown.
    - My general look is pretty SF Uniformy. This deviates slightly.

My choice is from winter, so I don't mind a DQ; I'm in this for the discussion. An excellent challenge, Holdfast.

    -------

    As to the other entrants:
    upr_crust's is without flaw

I agree with the criticism about Crat's shoes.

Holdfast, your selection sort of surprised me. I know you like that pinstriped suit a lot, but when I think of you, a suit is generally not the first outfit I imagine.

    ------

Stitchy had discussed not "having a look" or a style in another thread, something which pleases him at times and vexes him at others. I'm curious what he'll do in the challenge (as should he be right, any entry of his will be a compromise...and will lead to an interesting discussion, hopefully)

Stitchy, in my mind's eye, is wearing a Formosa suit with a cashmere tie and some pointy-ish shoes in a shade just lighter than conservative. And he's doing something goofy in the photo.

I may have been wrong in my choice and have no qualms changing it.

Earlier today, on the top of Anderton Court, the only Frank Lloyd Wright building in town. Sixty years ago, my younger brother and I used to like to run up to the top of Anderton Court and then run back down again. Last year when my brother was here, we walked past Anderton Court, but my brother didn't want to run up it and back down again even though I wanted to. I am very immature, which is me at my you-iest. Today, I couldn't get my friend to run up Anderton Court, so we walked up and took the picture. I think that I need to find friends who share my level of immaturity.

Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece silk jacket, Brookease button down shirt, ribbon belt, and argyle socks, Tie Bar tie, Square Extraordinare pocket square, Land's End trousers, and Allen-Edmonds tan suede Strandmoks.......

also, as a texture whore, i think anything that would be most me-ish, would have to be something with lots of texturey textures. because YAY TEXTARS THEY ARE TEH BEST EVAR!!!

my fit from the last FC was very me in that regard (see below) even if not stereotypically me stylistically.

Clags, if you think the one you choose best represents you (or your self-conception), that's the one. Even if it doesn't match our perception of you. At least, that's how I interpreted HF's challenge.

I feel like a million bucks in these first two...

...but I love texture. I feel like my true nature is probably a bit more casual than this, though...

I think this probably best represents the essence of SHUGGERBUSH! (Use this one for the contest, HF)

and therein lies the rub. i think that will be the hardest part about having a true winner. i mean, we all have our perceptions about different posters style, but who am i to say that so and so did not do a good job of presenting a fit that is most him. if he feels that is most him and how he is most comfortable, how can i really argue with that. its an interesting debate i think.

also, other people here only see a certain portion of who we are, through a certain lens, and even as far as fits, most people do not post up daily, so what we may wear the majority of the time, and what may truly be more "me," may not present itself here.

its going to be tough to decide what is "best" in this FC imo. i am monitoring this thread closely, as they say.

Perhaps the winner will be the person with the best internal/external image coherence.

Guys, just to make my life easy, if you post multiple fits for discussion, please also make it crystal clear as to which you want me to use in the poll. I'm only going to select one image from each of you for the shortlist summary.

Also, re: how people vote... Well, that's entirely up to them. They might decide the challenge concept is silly, and simply vote for the fit they like most. Or they might go totally the other way and pick an outfit that they think best represents the poster in question. Or they might - as I hope to try to do - search for a middle ground: a fit that is archetypal of that SFer but done in a way that shows them at their best and shows they've learned from SF. It will be impossible to retrospectively deconstruct the votes to determine which method people used, but in a way, that's besides the point. As long as we have a reasonable sample size of voters, the outcome will be sort of a synthesis of SF's prejudices (in the nicest possible way).

If you think about it, the challenge - if played with a straight bat - requires you to decide what you like to project, and also reveals a little of what others think of you, plus it highlights that the eternal problem of never really being able to know what's going on in someone else's mind (in this case, what they thought when they picked out an outfit or what others think of it).

It's a very superficial exploration of idealism, in a way... if I can be a bit pretentious of it. [IMG]

Very philosophical, HF. Clothing as self-presentation and self-production.
