@tstormkwhat is also interesting in regards to cement construction is that even the brigadiers have aspects that are just glued on. nails aren't sunk into the heel, rubber isn't welted on the sole, just glued. interesting to me too. as for repairing those, any sort of cobbler could get in there and press it closed.
of course most Boots that are Goodyear stitch, still have the sole glued to the mid sole, only the mid sole is stitched to the welt. so if the midsole/welt isn't too damaged, just gluing a new sole is ok, otherwise you need to repalce all tje welt and midsole.
it can happen that the sole is sticthed to the welt through the mid sole, visvim did it once on the 1st poundmaker boots i believe it was (not many brands bother doing a handstitched welt due to time consumption, but I think the stitching unevenness and the thicker stitch used adds character) :
