SP1 did a good job to make Vista slightly less memory-swallowing and made booting a little quicker, is there any progress on that front?

No idea. I just saw over on Engadget that it's out. Haven't installed yet and will likely hold off for some reviews.

I believe the last I read about SP2 is that it's not going to be a huge improvement. Mostly just a bunch of updates rolled into one. I may be wrong though because I haven't been following very closely at all and it's been a while since I read anything on the topic.

Sidebar gadgets should become much less resource-hogging. That and Windows Search 4, which is supposed to be much better and faster than the current search engine, make the update worthwhile to me. Better wireless performance and the ability to detect and block incompatible drivers and updates are nice too.

A comprehensive list of new features here.

You guys and GQGeek are the resident tech mavens.

To those of us that are technically challenged, would you recommend an immediate download of SP2 or wait a few weeks ( or order the SP2 CD which I assume will be available ).

I predict, I'll soon be getting messages from Microsoft on my 3 Vista machines about a "critical update that is recommended for immediate download".

Just based on the newness of SP2, I'd suggest holding out for a couple of weeks.

After that, read reviews and if all's okay, go for it.
