Yeah I figured Budget and Hertz wouldn't allow me to rent anything... I mean they don't here so I doubt they would there. I'm looking into to getting an English/International license like mentioned above because that road trip sounds really nice.

if you are all doof doof and enjoy ****** theme parks then go Surfer's Paradise. If not, catch a plane at the domestic airport and fly to anywhere else in Australia
