Eh .. the OP was a Canadian .. looking for info on what to do in Australia. I respect you like AFL, but most Canadian's I know who have visited your country liked Rugby better. That was the point I was trying to get across .. sorry if it came off as me taking a shot at your sport. For what it's worth, I did say it is an interesting sport.
I'm going to purchase tickets to both AFL and rugby if I can. I'm open minded and love to watch live sports, so it should be fun either way. Also, if it gets boring, I'm assuming they serve beer
Yes, there are places that will let you rent, but you'll have to look around. Places like Hertz and Budget definitely won't but smaller private shops will. We found a place that let us rent for $40/day with no surcharges. You need to present yourself as a responsible adult, and a competent driver .. but they'll let you go. Keep in mind, they may give you the smallest shittiest car they got. We ended up with 5 people packed into a Suzuki Swift.
If your license is in French .. you'll need an English license.
Also, you can definitely do the Great Ocean Road in one day. A long day granted, but one day none-the-less. We did it, in one day while taking in 3-4 hikes, and seeing most of the major land marks
Yeah I figured Budget and Hertz wouldn't allow me to rent anything... I mean they don't here so I doubt they would there. I'm looking into to getting an English/International license like mentioned above because that road trip sounds really nice.
