Virginia/DC area shopping

I'm at my parents' right now and will be for at least two more months, and I was wondering if anything.. um, reasonable can be found in the general virginia area, preferrably the Southern region.

Also, I'm planning to visit DC in a couple of days and since my friends tell me it's a good place to look around, it'd also be nice if you guys can point me to right directions (not only big malls, department stores, Soho-esque stand-alone stores, but also multi-shops, outlets, discount stores, etc.)

i've been going to (1) pentagon city mall, (2) connecticut avenue by dupont circle, and (3) some shops in Georgetown. Others like Friendship Heights, but that's too much travelling for me (I'm in Alexandria).

There's also Tyson's corner, leesburg outlets and potomac mills, but I hate the idea of driving that far to just take a look.

For streetwear, I think the Georgetown area is the best. The Barney's Coop there is better than the one in Chevy Chase (my opinion). Lots of cute girls in Georgetown also make it a pleasant shopping experience. Beyond that, a trip to Denim Bar in Arlington is in order if you are shopping for jeans. If you are in the DuPont area, check out Circle Boutique. They have a very small selection but some cool stuff like Rag & Bone.
