I realize that Turnbull & Asser had some clothing items made by Chester Barrie some time back, but I was wondering whether they ever had a full-fledged bespoke--or even MTM--outfit back in the '50s through the '70s?

If so, would this have been an in-house affair or was it subcontracted out?

I can't answer your specific question, but can add that I have four vintage T&A pieces, two sportcoats, one cashmere and one wool, from the 1960's that are fabulous, and the third is a raglan sleeve coat from at the latest the 1950's. I also have a two piece glenn plaid suit from the 1960's or 70's. Absolute top quality stuff.

These pieces of yours sound very exciting.

New tailored clothing doesn't interest me much, but top-notch vintage stuff made in the '60s through the '70s is the best. The crazier the better such as Tommy Nutter, Mr.Fish, R.Meledandri, etc.

One would imagine it would cost a good deal of money and effort to replicate these sorts of things even with top-end bespoke.

Every one of those I found on eBay...but I'd bet thrift shops in well to do areas would also have a few. Here's a pic of the coat I was talking about...

Cool coat. I have a similar one and you have to have balls to wear it.
