Vintage Navy Blazer With a patch breast pocket and insert lower pockets?

Good Morning All,

I have a weird post question. I’ve been on a quixotic quest to find a vintage 1960s style navy blazer that fits me (I found a vintage blazer that’s got all the perfect details but it’s useless cause it’s a 46 long and I wear a 40 long).

However, I recently spied an interesting early 1960s style one in my size, though with a bit of mileage and a school crest from one I didn’t attend (I can cover it with my own alma mater patch) BUT, it’s got something off to my eye: the embroidered breast pocket is a patch pocket while the lower 2 are regular insert flapped pockets. I’ve seen three patch pockets or 2 lower patch and one breast insert pocket, even one without a breast pocket, but this is unique. I imagine it was easier to imbroider a breast patch pocket and add it then why not have patch pockets thru out or was it designed with out a breast pocket for easy addition of school crest? I doubt the patch can be removed as the jacket shows signs of fading.

Any thoughts?

A blazer with a school crest—if that is what you really want—is unique enough that honestly I doubt people will notice that it has a breast patch pocket.

LOL, yeah, trust me, I really don’t want a crest on a jacket, let alone one for a college I didn’t attend, but as I really like this vintage style, and need a medium long size, my choices are limited. And the crest is embroidered in, so ether lose the patch pocket or cover it up with another patch. Like I said, these are few and far between. Just so odd to see this patch pocket arrangement.

Since you have a very specific look in mind, maybe worth looking into a custom jacket depending on how much you’re looking to spend.

  • Just the collar button is enough for me.

  • Two, including the collar button.

  • Three, including the collar button.

  • None.
