I have been looking for the perfect cafe racer style leather jacket for a while. I have had some success but it seems that I am more attracted to the idea of getting a vintage one that is scuffed and broken in. In addition, it seems like some of these great manufacturers have gone out of business or have drastically changed their style or quality.

I have had mixed success trying to research the various brands and I have not found a thread on SF that deals exclusively on this subject (what are quality brands, what to look for, where to buy, what to pay etc.) If I missed that thread here, please direct me to it.

I have been looking at some mid-seventies Brimaco chrome tanned rust colored jackets that I think are beautiful. They seem to range from $300 to $600 depending on wear and patina. Schott and Brooks are also brands that look interesting.

What is the hierarchy of jackets from that era? What should one look for? What should they cost? Where to KOP?
