I've been looking for a boot similar to the Roper style boots that Frye offered in the 70's and 80's :
it should have a round toe, flat heel, not taller than a 6" shaft and be leather-lined ... I've only
found some boots by Justin that are somewhat similar but not quite the real McCoy. Maybe someone knowledgeable on this forum can point me in the right direction ? I've attached some photos from the www to illustrate my quest !

Hi Doc,
thanks for the headsup - these are nice but too much "western" style for my taste.

What about Lucchese? For my money, nobody's making anything even close.

Maybe resurrecting this old thread will turn something up now - still haven't found a boot that checks all the boxes like this old 70's/80's Frye Roper style 1906 does :
- short-ish shaft
- round toe
- low heel
- double layered sole (not triple...)

Any one here has some ideas ? Much appreciated !

You could try Zerrow's. Not sure if they do as low as 6" shaft but they're pretty amenable to customization with the caveat that they do have upcharges for things like leather lining, design at the instep, shaft height changes, etc. But I think their pecos boot with the right last might be what you're looking for. Posting examples below. There is a 6-month wait as well.

Thanks - these are more or less normal Roper Boots, just as Lucchese, Frye and many others have on offer. That vintage model from Frye has a still rounder toe, a lower shaft and - very important - a much WIDER shaft/instep ... I guess I'm out of luck with this quest- today's style with narrow pant-legs won't work with these either so a bootmaker would think twice before investing in such a model. Too bad .....
