I have spent the early part of the day cleaning up these Florsheim 32301's that I saw on @davidVC list. They are my first foray into shell shoes. I had a pair of Alden shell chukkas that were a bit too large for me that got moved along just a few weeks ago, but now I am truly entering into a new world. I am boxing them up to give to myself for Christmas. I really do blame this on all of you!! Enablers to a man.

Now those are a great Christmas present. Fair warning that those just possibly might not be your last pair of shell shoes.

You are probably right, but i will not sleep until you each have a pair of camel Dack's and McHale gunboats.

Shell is so addictive. I scour for them on eBay several times a day.

Herbert Butler’s custom shell Florsheim. He asked for cat paws which always works for me.

Happy belated Thanksgiving Forum Friends. I have been ridiculously busy the past few months. Rotated the spectators to the top of the closet and brought down the boots today. Was also doing a little cleanup and figured I would drop in and say hello while they are drying. 3 of 4 vintage ?

The mystery on these spectators just deepens and deepens. Still trying to figure out their original configuration and then what was done to them afterwards.

It appears that the vamp was originally a cream color but is now kind of a peach color from all of the abuse. There is some burgundy showing on top, but also some that appears as you strip down layers. The bottom of that material also appears to be gray. Corrected grain? Many attempts to recolor?

As far as the toe cap, that is Golden Harvest, but someone at some point seems to have been hell bent on a reverse burnish (lighter toe cap and heel, then darker everywhere else).

And then there was the attempt to simply cover everything with dark brown polish

No idea what I’ll end up doing with these. Pics are taken after acetone scrub and then 1 round of bick 4 followed by 1 coat of Renovateur.

Open to suggestions on where to go with them. The cream colored sections look much worse in real life than in the pics.

These are marked 93631. Perhaps Florsheim made a run of these...
Spologies if they were commented on already. I am about 100 pages behind and was looking backwards.
