I was inspired by the shoe challenge thread several times to attempt to remove the CG coating on some Johnston Murphy Melton Cap Toe that I have. They were dark burgundy or the black cherry they used to have. The CG was wearing oddly and they looked weird. Lat night I got the itch to try it. My wife had a bottle of Acetone Nail Polish remover. So, I tried it. With the very first cotton pad, I realized it was going to work (as far as removing the color). I was not sure if it would remove the CG coating.

Here are some pics.

I did the other one, but only got about 3/4 finished when I ran out of acetone. It didn't take much, but the bottle was only about 10% full.

I tried the water drop test and it did not soak in. BUT, I am halfway considering stopping where I am at and keeping them the current color. I may not. I am going to see if I can brush them a little to get some shine. These are definitely experimental shoes. SO, if later decide to use furniture/wood stripper to take off the CG, I'm not out anything if I ruin them.

I wore my MUCH newer Alden Shell LWB the other day. So, I didn't want my vintage Florsheim to feel neglected.

Speaking of shoe laces (as we were earlier when the universe was telling me to stay home or wear loafers
@actionjbone that made me chuckle) does anybody have good advice or opinion on decent shoe laces. I want the thin dress shoe variety I usually like the waxed variety but really just want durability. I break shoe laces all the time. I'm sure part of it is because I am cinching them tight since my feet are narrow and part of it is because I wear vintage shoes that have old laces. SO, where do you get decent laces? I also need the longer ones. I have a few pair with 5 or even 6 eyelets and sometimes the laces are too short.

I bought the "Tom, Dick, and Harry" wingtips that looked so good on ebay. I would definitely recommend the seller. They were in spectacular condition.

I will also say based on my communication he is one of us. His first love with men's shoes fits in perfectly. He loves old Florsheim and Nettelton and all the old American manufacturers. He has some really amazing shoes for sale.

I'm not getting anything by plugging him. I am just excited when I see an ebay seller that has great products and does business the way we appreciate.

We had a recent discussion about shell cordovan Yuma loafers. If you are lucky enough to wear a 12D, he has a pair. If you click on the seller's name you can see his other listings.

I really have an issue. I just sold off 5 pairs. And then I picked up these 97626 for super cheap. But I don't have this model. They will need to be recrafted.

That’s not an issue. You are still negative 4 shoes recently! You should be patting yourself on the back.

Also, I was just looking at a pair of 97626 in my size. I’m not familiar with that model/style number. How does it differ from 93605?

Thanks for the support.

As I understand it from @davidVC 's page, the 97626 is a later version of the 93605.

Paging @eTrojan

13AA is probably pretty hard to find.

How about some black Shell AE Leeds?

Unless this is your listing?

This last fits me in a 13A, though because shell shoes run a little wide, I might be able to make the 13 AA work. I'm 50/50 on PTBs. With feet as long and skinny as mine, they frequently look like clown shoes.

Don’t forget they are Shell for less than $100!

I got my 97626 pair for $43 shipped. Seller had no idea what she was selling.

She had a second pair of 97626, but in much worse state. The collar ribbing was totally cracked and needs replacement. Soles and heels in similar condition.

She wanted 30 for this pair as well. I passed. Someone else bought them.

I almost grabbed those to flip. Glad you got them. Great deal.

Seller had second pair that was in much tougher shape. Ribbing was cracked.
