Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

Pre 1973 93605s off of Etsy for $54 shipped. They are in transit. The heel counter is a bit of a mess and they look dry. I figure it’s with the risk for the price.

It is black cap toe clean-up day; two pairs of H.H Brown Canadian military oxfords and a generic pair of well made English shoes (on the right). The English shoes are a bit of a mystery. They are marked in US sizing, but the sock-liner just says "Shoes". As you might guess, googling "Shoes Made in England" gave lots of results but was not much help. I suspect they were a private label offering for a clothier made by a decent British manufacturer. They have pleasing lines in comparison to the military shoes IMO. I am cleaning up the "Shoes" for a friend who has discovered Indochino suits, but not decent footwear. I picked them up for $10 and I am hoping he will buy me a $12 Thai lunch to cover the purchase and my Bicks 4 and polish.

We have a great hobby. I have been to the gym today, done my grocery shopping, my wife and girls are out, and now I get to spend the afternoon listening to music, drinking tea and working on some shoes. Perfect!

Difficult to be 100% conclusive from this angle but I think these markings indicate Sanders as the manufacturer.

would anyone happen to know the name of this font? It was very common in mid 20th century England...Penguin Books used it a lot.

HA! I know exactly what you mean. I have never been cool either. In fact, I noticed something that proves this.

I caught a reflection of myself this morning in the elevator. I guess I had not noticed the whole thing before I left my house. I have, apparently, turned into one of my law professors.

I knew I wanted to wear my vintage suede Florsheim wingtips today. And it is a little cold today so instead of wearing a coat, I wore a tweed Sport coat.

SO, I'm wearing 1960's Suede wingtips, with a Tweed Sport coat (with elbow patches) and I need a haircut so my hair is at that middle-aged-man-trying-to-capture-his-rebellious-days length. If I was smoking a pipe and driving a Volvo I would be a caricature!

Those are most certainly Sanders shoes. The large S on both ends of the insock stamping stands for Sanders& Sanders of Rushden. The shoe is a British Army parade dress shoe. Sanders is the primary producer of GYW footwear for the MoD, and approximately 50% of their total factory production is devoted to it.

93605s with topy, cat paw heels, and grommets. I really love how the latter looks on this pair. I now have 4 pairs of 93605. Enough? Nah.

That is so cool to know. Thank you very much. It is also wonderful that I ended up cleaning them up with twp pairs of Canadian Army dress Oxfords. Appropriate.

UPDATE: I found pictures of the exact "ShoeS" on a web forum in Japan. They were an offering of the Sanders military shoes to the general public. This particular pair sold for $484 Cdn, or roughly $390 usd. Thanks again.

We may be deep into fall now, but I like spectators more than I like conventional style rules so I've been wearing these 1930s Bostonians.

During the weeks leading up to Christmas the post office delivers on Sundays in Canada. Today these 1950's Dacks U-wings arrived. They are the Custom Grade "Cambridge" model which was first advertized in 1954 and continued as a list item right up to 1987. These are early ones with nailed heels and the 1950's sock liner. They will replace a later pair I have that exhibit multiple issues.
