In case it was not mentioned, @davidVC has a new and very informative post up at vcleat.com. Go check it out. He is far too humble to mention it himself.

And what did I do afterwards? Go look at some Foot-Joys, even though I don't golf.

I checked out my Foot-Joy alligator loafers. Based on the four-digit model number, they appear to be pre-1968 (if regular shoes follow same marking rules as golf shoes), but instead of “Field and Flint” stamped on the outsole, it is stamped “Brockton Footwear Inc.”

Took an extra day off after the Thanksgiving long weekend. Off to the spa with Mrs. SFC.

Herbie Butler’s custom shell Florsheims got the call. BAF74AEA-9A83-4383-8F63-CC50ECC2EDDE.jpeg

Hi Guys:

I know I'm a little late to the party but I have an idea why the response to the shoe competition was poor this year. Only my opinion though!

Last year some of the contestants were so good I didn't feel I could add anything to the mix, never mind actually winning or getting an honorable mention. I think other people may have felt the same this year and not entered.

Perhaps the next competition could include tiers of challenge such as: best stripping/dyeing, best cleanup etc.

Hey, just an idea.

Thanks. I know everyone is not interested in golf but the FootJoy shoes of the era were pretty amazing. There is still a lot of interest in the Classics pairs.

That's interesting. It has the 70s logo.

The 1970 catalog I posted says "Brockton Footwear Inc" on page 2. So maybe "Foot-Joy" wasn't the name of the company until later that year or the next.

Next year's competition will look something like this:

1. No monetary limit;
2. 6 months deadline to finish the work;
3. First round of voting is done by SF members. In final week of voting, I hope to have cobblers donate daily prizes to bring traffic to vote;
4. Top 10 or 5 based on the vote, will then be evaluated by panel of judges.

Just the other day I was wondering why we don't see any of the borhide (boar hide?) models that Allen Edmonds had in the '50s, '60s, '70s. There was a full lineup that show up in the vintage catalogs, but I hadn't ever seen a listing...until now.

This appears to be the "Boot-Skos" model that can be found in the 1974 catalog. I'm assuming that the crepe sole is replaceable, but that would add a big chunk to the gross cost.

I saw those earlier today and immediately thought of you when I saw 13A.

I hate @davidVC. I am now the proud (?) owner of a pair of lizard skin golf shoes from a Foot-Joy. I don’t even know whether I made a good choice. It was a low ball offer on a whim. So they’re now being shipped.
