I'm thinking the difference has to do with Margarita Mondays during lunch or not.

Or the old "if you've got nothing nice to say..." :p

I am actually really blunt at the workplace and known to be abrasive. During my off hours, I do take stock and try to be nice.

Plus I really like you guys. Most people in the law world just piss me off.

Yeah. I've certainly caused my fair share of friction being blunt about how they can improve at work, but you don't learn if you aren't told!

Hey Guys, could use a little help on a possible purchase.... I found this pair of plain black cap toes on David's list and I am thinking about buying them. Can anyone help me out with a rough idea of how old these are and how the quality is relative to something common/readily available like a modern park ave? Believe it or not, I no longer have any pairs of very formal plain cap toe oxfords since I sold my park aves a few years ago due to a slight mis-size.

Speaking of sizing, if anyone has a sense of how these are likely to run size wise... I'm a 10D/E with a higher instep so the 65 last can be a little tricky for me to get the facings to close nicely.

Edit: Answering my question... I didnt realize that these were quite this modern. I suspect that these are from 2012. Guessing they are mediocre at best but perhaps worth the $40. Ehhh... less excited about them now. :|

Edit 2: Ok, this is getting annoying, sorry. Maybe I should actually buy them. David has a write up on them and seems to think highly of them.

They are recent and they are the last of the recently discontinued CA miUSA models. Good to very good quality, they’re actually worth more than the asking price (originally they’re a 400 dollar shoe).

Ah hah! Cool - thanks man. I bought them a little while ago. Did a little research and learned that they seem to have a little more instep than the PA and maybe a shorter cap --- both good for me --- plus the leather seems to be creasing really tightly, which is a big deal for me in this type of shoe. For 40 bucks seemed worth a shot given the condition. As always, appreciate the input!

Those are nice, classic, black captoe oxfords. Good find!

Ever-helpful, eBay suggested something similar... and at half the cost to boot! ;)

I will admit this makes me feel somewhat better about my purchase. Despite the marketing language, I'm not sure they meet my standards for either a bicycle toe OR an oxford, although they are spectacular nonetheless. Don't let me stop you from purchasing them since I know we are sized similarly!

They’re a genuinely good shoe. J&M killed off the line only about a year ago. Today, J&M’s model appears to be increasingly about chasing that fast-fashion dollar. They’re overseas contract-produced GYW shoes are okay, at best.

It’s a shame, J&M increasingly devalued their brand over the last 30 years, never trying to follow AE up-market.

French Shriner Urner to church and Costco run today. I am guessing these are also from the 50s base on the linen-cloth lining.

I like this simple classic apron derby. Wishing I can make it another color since I got too many shoes in black.

They walked the same path as Florsheim, but at slower pace. I have handled some of the later US made JM shoes, and they are pretty high quality, and worth 100-300 if you can find them NOS.

AE is also on the same path. I guess all we can do is keep looking for gems.
